It was around 2.15am when I witnessed a footballing history happening. Its very rare my father is awake at that point of time just to watch a football match. But this football match which created history and sent every Spanish into ecstasy had made my father and me to be awake and watch.
It was 116th minute of the playing time when Andres Iniesta hit a sublime kick to send Spain 1-0 up against the miserly Dutch. And he removed the shirt , not caring the yellow card he would get for that, and started running. Its typical of him to run like that. I had seen him run the same way when he had struck a goal in similar fashion against Chelsea in 2009 to send Barcelona into Champions League Finals. I felt he is the No 1 Matador of Spain who has pummelled the Dutch bulls to submission.
All said about Spanish victory the final itself was a very dull match. It was full of fouls and cards. Referee whistles was heard more often than the irritating sound of the 'vuvuzuelas'( the nasty blow horns in the stadium ). Spain deserved to win. They were better alround. The only problem they had to counter was the threat of the 'Glass Man'Arjen Robben which they did to some extent ( by hook or crook ).
It took extra time for Spain to settle the issue. I started watching World Cup football from France 98. I rate 2006 World Cup as the best I have seen among the four.
The end of FIFA 2010 WC means the start of Transfer Market in Europe. Its filled with speculations and gossips. Lot of questions will be answered in coming 2 months. Will Fabregas move to Barcelona ? Will Torres leave Liverpool ? Whom will AC Milan and Juventus buy to restore their lost pride ? How will Jose Mourinho restructure his new club Real Madrid's squad? It just can't better in the Soccer World.
